A River Of Mercy, A Bond Of Grief

A Bond of Grief
It was a quite and lovely street
I was new to the neighborhood
Cars in and out next door gathered with somber
I inquired.
Mary Jamerson had lost a child
Awkwardly, I paid respects
Knocking softly. Pale and dry eyed she invited me in.
Introduced me to other neighbors
Food was on the table, untouched
I said all the proper things, "I am sorry for your loss; is there anything I can do; I am right next door if you need anything."
She sat quietly at the kitchen table and offered coffee.
I was amazed at her strength and stoic composure.
The door bell rang. Someone called to Mary, "Gracie is here."
Mary's face exploded with emotion. She rose and walked quickly to the front door.
Someone whispered to me, "That's Grace Meadows, one of her good friends who also lost a child."
They embraced, and held each other. A river of mercy and grace ran between them
In a bond of grief.
I left quietly

anndavis: So long as we let others know that there is someone willing to be a friend and help this is all anyone can do. Thank you for sharing this story and God bless.
We do not understand someone's feeling until we go through the same ordeal.
sad but beautifully written.
Wonderful heart felt poem. Voted up, awesome and beautiful.
Hi Ann, I am blown away by your words, I can so relate to them.
Absolutely incredible writing and voted up.
It's so hard to comfort someone in a situation like this, and I love how you expressed in poetry the range of all these complex emotions. Thanks for sharing!
I felt as if I was there . You captured this in such a way I can almost see you leaving , becoming overwhelmed.
I find that when this happens to people , close to you even neighbors , it can easily engulf you .
A manifestation of your human side.
Beautiful write and great share.
Bless.
Ann, your depth is remarkable. I loved this poem in the way it captured the empathy that is so natural to us as humans but is often not seen in daily living. In basketball vernacular, you got game young lady. I'll be back to sample more of your works soon.
This really is beautiful...and deep.
Silence is Golden... so is knowing when to leave in peace and quiet. Your post will help others to know how to handle the grief of others. Very nice. God Bless.

OH Ann what you have written is so true. We can only offer to be there for someone in grief but there is a common bond to someone who has gone through the same thing. They know what to say to eachother as it comes naturally. Thank you so much for sharing..If this is a true event I am sorry for your neighbors loss..such a horrible thing for any parent to go through.
God bless,
Sunnie
